Apart from the probably spectacular experience of being out at night on the ski slopes with snowcats, the transformation from landscape to image is equally exceptional. It is in fact a chain reaction of three technical processes: Machine-Electrical Light-Camera. The recorded landscape at every moment embodies one stage of a constantly changing land-art piece which exists only through the light of the very machine that creates and alters this land-art piece: the snowcat. Then the camera transforms – with yet another technical process – that ephemeral land art into a permanent picture. Thus, the resulting photographs seem to be withdrawn from this world, a reminiscence of nature lost in a rapid reverie; unique, solemn beauty as a result of applied technologies. [Luna Gooseberry] |
